Dental Implants In 3 Minutes?

The Truth About Implant Surgery Speed

Recently we came across an ad in a local newspaper. “Fix your mouth in three minutes? No problem!” states this Prosthodontist. Really? An implant surgical procedure is going to be performed in three minutes? Does it sound too good to be true?

The short answer is yes. Marketing claims about implant placement speed fundamentally misunderstand what quality implant dentistry requires. When you’re replacing a tooth that may support you for the next 20, 30, or even 40 years, rushing through the procedure isn’t an advantage, it’s a red flag.

Why Precision Takes Time

An implant needs to be precisely placed. This proper implant positioning and angulation dictates the esthetics and function of the overlying crown or other restoration. Implant drilling location should be verified by dental radiographs prior to insertion of the implant to assure its best positioning between the roots, etc. In other words, the object in implant placement is to drill the implant site slowly, not quickly.

The reality of quality implant surgery involves careful planning, multiple diagnostic steps, and deliberate surgical technique. Dr. Marlin uses precision implant placement techniques that require time for proper assessment and execution. Each implant is positioned with consideration for the surrounding bone structure, adjacent teeth, and long-term functional requirements. This meticulous approach prevents complications and ensures your restoration will look natural and function properly for decades.

Think of it this way: would you want your surgeon rushing through a procedure that will become a permanent part of your anatomy? The brief time spent in surgery today determines your comfort and smile quality for the rest of your life.

In short, in our opinion, speed is the last qualification for implant placement. We do not feel that “dental implants in 3 minutes” is the way to go. Quality takes time, and your smile deserves nothing less.
